G6 math got busy this week with a station activity designed to enhance skills in naming and expanding decimals. Through a combination of independent work and collaborative efforts, students were able to deepen understanding of decimal concepts, engage with hands-on activities, and support one another in problem-solving. This interactive approach not only reinforces learning, but fosters teamwork and communication among classmates.
G6数学课在本周开展了一场别开生面的小组活动,提升学生们识别小数及展开小数的能力。通过独立学习与小组合作相结合的方式,同学们加深了对小数概念的理解,参与了动手实践活动,并在解决问题时相互支持。这种互动式教学方法不仅强化了他们的学习效果,还促进了同学之间的团队协作与沟通交流。

G11 IBDP 化学课
G11 IB Diploma Chemistry students have been deepening their understanding of chemical reactions through practical investigations in the lab. In line with the IB Approaches to Teaching, students engaged in inquiry-based learning by designing and carrying out experiments, collecting precise data, and reflecting on their findings. These lab experiences not only strengthen scientific skills, but also cultivate attributes of the IB Learner Profile, helping students grow as Thinkers and Knowledgeable learners who can analyze, evaluate, and apply their learning in new contexts.
G11 IB化学课的同学通过实验室中的实践探究活动,加深了对化学反应的理解。依据IB教学理念,同学们采用探究式学习方法,自行设计并开展实验、收集精确数据,并对实验结果进行反思。这些实验室体验不仅强化了学生的科学技能,还培养了国际文凭学习者特质中所倡导的各项素养,助力学生成长为善于思考、知识渊博的学习者,使他们能够在新情境中分析、评估并运用所学知识。
G11 & G12 Art Field Trip
G11 & G12 艺术课课外活动
Students in IB DP G11 & G12 Visual Art recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to the Hexiangning Art Museum in Nanshan. At the museum, students received a guided tour of two exhibitions: Georgette Chen - At Home in the World and Woodblock Memories: An Exhibition of Woodblock Prints by Chinese Artists 1931 -1945.
After the tour, students engaged as Inquirers and Reflective thinkers, as they worked on creating annotated visual studies and notes in relation to how the exhibitions were curated. They enjoyed lunch at Yitian Holiday Plaza before returning to school. It was an engaging ‘day without walls’ of learning.
G11 IB DP G11 & G12 视觉艺术课的同学近期走出课堂走入南山区何香凝美术馆参观学习。同学们在美术馆导览的带领下参观了两场展览,分别是《张荔英-此心安处》和《木刻记忆:1931-1945年中国艺术家的视觉实践与媒介传播》。
参观结束后,学生们以IB学习者特质探究者和善于反思的思考者的身份投入学习,围绕展览的策展方式撰写带注释的视觉研究报告和笔记。同学们随后在益田假日广场就餐返校。这真是一次别开生面“无围墙课堂”的沉浸式学习体验。
Formative assessments are used to “form” instruction. We use the data collected from formative assessments in designing learning experiences to meet students where they are in order to assist them to grow in their knowledge and understanding. Teachers conduct formative assessments on a daily basis. This can be walking around and looking at each student’s work or taking a poll, for example. WIDA and MAP are examples of formative assessment. They give teachers data to use so that we help students maximize their learning while at school. We thank our students for being focused and doing their best on the assessment this week!

Commitment to campus safety remains a priority at Net Valley. This week, we had an evacuation drill to practice our preparedness in the unlikely event of an emergency. Our students and staff demonstrated proficiency in the drill.

ParentEDU G11&G12 Transitions: Supporting Student Success

Last week, Diploma Programme Coordinator Erin Garnhum and University Counsellor Pam Tan hosted ParentEDU sessions for G11 and G12 families. G11 parents explored how to support students as they transition into the Diploma Programme, while G12 parents focused on strategies to help students complete the DP successfully and prepare for post-secondary pathways.
These sessions are part of our wider ParentEDU programme, designed to help parents and guardians understand our SIS learning pathways and take a meaningful part in their children’s educational journey. In line with the IB Programme Standards, we remain committed to providing the guidance and support that enables students to succeed in the IB and plan confidently for their next stage of learning and growth. Chinese B Teachers’ Job-Alike Session
中文语言B教学同城交流会
This week the Chinese B Teachers’ Job-Alike session was successfully held at SIS Net Valley Campus. The event was initiated by our DP Chinese B teacher, Ms. Tang, and brought together Chinese B teachers from international schools across the Greater Bay Area to discuss key challenges and opportunities in teaching IBDP Chinese B and MYP Chinese Language Acquisition.
During the session, teachers drew on their classroom experiences to share valuable insights on lesson design, learning strategies, and assessment practices. The open discussions sparked many fresh ideas, leaving all participants inspired and enriched. Beyond professional dialogue, the gathering also strengthened cross-school collaboration and created a meaningful platform for shared growth.
Looking ahead, SIS remains committed to creating more opportunities for collaboration and exchange. Together with fellow educators in the Greater Bay Area, we aim to advance Chinese language education and enable students to fully experience the beauty and value of learning Chinese in an international context.
本周中文B同城交流会在SIS网谷校区圆满举行。本次活动由SIS DP中文语言B教师唐老师发起,诚邀来自大湾区多所国际学校的中文语言B教师齐聚一堂,共同探讨IBDP中文语言B课程与MYP中文语言习得教学中的重点与难点。
在交流过程中,老师们结合自身的教学实践,分享了课堂设计、学习策略以及评估方法的宝贵经验。大家畅所欲言,思想的火花不断碰撞,收获满满。此次活动不仅为教师们提供了一个互学互鉴的平台,也进一步促进了跨校之间的专业合作与共同成长。
