Dear SIS families,
Thank you to all who joined us for our recent Curriculum Mornings. Your presence and partnership are a vital part of our learning community, and we are grateful for the thoughtful engagement and questions you shared.
As you saw, the age and stage of children deeply influence what we do in the classroom. Our intentional practice is guided by both research-backed approaches to teaching and learning, as well as the data that tells us who your children are as learners—their strengths, their needs, and their unique pathways of growth. With a commitment to nurturing the whole child, our curriculum is designed to be responsive, meaningful, and rigorous. We hope that came through clearly during your visit.
In the past two weeks, we have also been gathering important insights into our learners. MAP testing has been completed across grades 2-5, and our Grade 3 learners participated in Mindprint, which helps us understand their executive functioning skills. Alongside these, teachers have been taking baseline assessments in reading, writing, and math, giving us a holistic view of both individual learners and entire cohorts. This helps us reflect on our curriculum and plan thoughtfully for the learning ahead.
Our community life is also thriving—this week, our Grade 4 and 5 students held their Student Council elections, and we look forward to the results and the leadership these students will bring.
Looking ahead, we invite you to join us for the upcoming Goal-Setting Conferences, an important opportunity to connect with teachers, reflect on growth, and set intentions for the year ahead. We also encourage you to attend our Parent EDU session on Digital Safety, a timely and important topic for every family.
And while you are on campus, don’t forget to stop by the PSA Book Fair! It’s a wonderful way to discover great reads for rainy days and to support a love of reading at home.
Warmly,
Erin Threlfall
