New Student Orientation
新生入学指导
SIS was delighted to welcome 42 new students at our Net Valley New Student Orientation on Friday August 1st. Through campus tours, visits with our services and vendors booths, and introductions to the SIS leadership and PSA, our newcomers began building connections and developing the confidence to navigate their learning journey.
In true Communicator spirit, student ambassadors shared their stories and helped answer the thoughtful questions from new students and families. This support from our community in welcoming new students shows the Open-Mindedness that will help new students engage in our diverse, international community.
在上周五8月1日的网谷校区新生入学指导活动中,SIS欣然迎来了42名新同学。新生们参观校园,了解校园服务和供应商窗口,与SIS学校管理团队和家委会见面交流,他们建立人际联系,逐步树立起探索学习之旅的信心。
秉持着真诚沟通的精神,学生大使们分享了自己的经验,并耐心解答新生和家长提问。社区成员们以这种热情友好的方式欢迎新同学,彰显了包容开放的精神,这有助于新生更好地融入我们多元且国际化的校园大家庭。
At SIS, every secondary student has a mentor: a teacher who provides guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear throughout the year. Our Meet the Mentor event on August 6th gave students, parents and their mentors the chance to connect personally, get important information about the year ahead, and begin fostering the relationships that help them grow as Balanced and Reflective learners.
Mentors support students not only in academics, but also in developing important Approaches to Learning such as Self-Management as they meet with them each morning to start the day, and with their Social-emotional learning during Gecko Core.
在SIS,每位中学生都会有一名导师,导师会在整个学年为学生提供指导、鼓励,并耐心倾听他们的心声。8月6日举办的导师见面会,为师生和家长搭建了面对面交流的平台,让大家了解新学年重要的信息,着手构建有助于学生成长为均衡发展、善于反思的学习者的师生关系。
导师们不仅在学业上给予学生支持,还通过每日晨会面对面助力学生培养自我管理等重要的学习方法技能,并在壁虎核心课程中关注学生的社会情感学习发展。
First Day of School Welcome Assembly A B-E-A-UTIFUL Start
开学日迎新会 美~妙~开启
The new school year began with energy and laughter at our First Day of School Welcome Assembly, hosted by Activities and Athletics Director, Thomas Mathews. Academic subject teams introduced themselves with creative and often hilarious performances, showing their Communicator and Risk-Taker spirit. Students learned about upcoming opportunities to get involved in sports and activities, with opening dates announced to help everyone start planning. The Senior Leadership Team proved their own willingness to take risks-quite literally-by taking on a hot sauce challenge! Inside the theatre, it was a B-E-A-UTIFUL day… and the perfect start to a B-E-A-UTIFUL year at SIS.
After the assembly, students spent an extended session with their Mentor groups for orientation activities, before moving through their timetable in shorter sessions to get to know their teachers and classrooms. It was a day for meeting new teachers, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones, all while building the relationships and routines that will support a successful year ahead.
新学年伊始,由体育与活动总监Thomas Mathews主持的开学迎新大会洋溢着活力与欢声笑语。各学科教师团队以创意十足且妙趣横生的表演亮相,充分展现了他们善于沟通、敢于尝试的特质。同学们了解到即将开展的体育与社团活动信息,获悉报名启动日期以便提前规划参与。学校管理团队更是身体力行,以“勇尝辣酱”的挑战诠释了敢于冒险的精神!剧场一片欢腾,这无疑是SIS美好新学年的完美开篇。
迎新会结束后,导师小组和同学们共同参与了稍后的迎新活动,按照简短的课程表依次前往不同教室,与任课教师见面并熟悉环境。同学们在这一天认识了新老师,与老朋友重逢,结交新朋友,建立人际关系和熟悉日常流程的同时,为新学年的成功奠定了基础。
G11& G12 Diploma Programme Welcome Assembly
G11& G12 国际文凭课程迎新会
Our Diploma Programme students kicked off the year with a Welcome Assembly that brought G11 and G12 together as a learning community. G12 students demonstrated their Caring and Principled leadership by sharing honest, practical advice with the incoming G11s about thriving in the DP. Together, students co-created community agreements for shared DP study spaces, showing their commitment to being Responsible and Balanced learners.
Mrs. Erin Garnhum, our Diploma Programme Coordinator, alongside Grade Level Leaders Kamel Dallal and Ian Ketcham and the G11–12 Mentor team, guided students through key dates, expectations, and policies to ensure everyone begins the year informed and prepared. This collaborative start sets the tone for a year where DP students will continue to be active contributors to our SIS community.
DP同学们以迎新大会开启新学年,G11和G12的同学齐聚一堂共建学习共同体。G12同学秉持关爱与坚持原则的精神,向新到来G11分享了切实且坦诚的建议,助力他们在DP学习中茁壮成长。他们还共同制定了DP共享学习空间的社区公约,彰显了他们作为负责任且均衡发展的学习者的承诺。
我们的DP协调员Erin Garnhum老师,携手年级组长Kamel Dallal、Ian Ketcham老师以及G11和G12导师团队,引导学生们熟悉学习关键日期、期望要求及各项政策,确保每位同学都能获得充分的信息和准备开启新学年。这一协作共进的开端,为DP同学在新的一年中继续积极投身于SIS社区建设奠定了基础。
G11 DP1 Economics - Exploring Equity and Equality
G11 DP1 经济学课 - 探究公平与平等
In their very first week of DP Economics, our G11 students in Mr. Thomas George’s class jumped straight into a thought-provoking discussion about the difference between equity and equality, and how these ideas influence economic decision-making. New to the Diploma Programme, they demonstrated Approaches to Learning skills in Social Skills and Communication, listening actively, sharing perspectives, and engaging in respectful debate.
As Inquirers and Thinkers, students asked probing questions and examined real-world examples—setting a strong foundation for their learning journey in the DP.

G12 DP2 Chemistry - Investigating, Testing, and Thinking Like Scientists

This week, G12 Chemistry students, under the watchful eye of Mrs. Natalie Brink, moved from planning to action as they began their Internal Assessment (IA) experiments. With research questions submitted, students demonstrated the Inquirer and Thinker attributes by carefully checking their methodologies, selecting appropriate equipment, and preparing to gather reliable data. The lab was alive with purposeful discussion, precise measurement, and collaborative problem-solving as students applied their knowledge to real-world investigations.
These IAs are a chance for students to showcase their Knowledgeable and Reflective skills-designing and conducting experiments that are entirely their own.

We welcomed parents to Net Valley this week for our first ParentEDUs of the school year. The topic was how we support students with wrap-around areas as well as some Toddle introduction. Please join us for next week's ParentEDU on MYP topics-Assessment, Reporting and Personal Project. We would love to see you!

Back to School Night

We enjoyed welcoming parents and students to the Net Valley campus yesterday for our Back to School Night event. Being able to put a face to a teacher's name and beginning building that parent-teacher partnership is key in supporting students to do their best at school. There was a great vibe so thanks for coming out and contributing to our community through being involved.

Community Partner Reception

This Wednesday, SIS welcomed our valued community partners for a special reception aimed at strengthening collaboration and planning ahead. The gathering focused on creating a full-year service learning opportunities calendar to guide meaningful student engagement across the school year. Our Parent School Association (PSA) also joined the event, reflecting the spirit of our thriving community and our shared commitment to enriching student learning through authentic connections.
周三,SIS诚挚欢迎长期合作的社区伙伴们齐聚一堂,举办了一场特别招待会,旨在深化协作、共谋未来发展。此次聚会聚焦于制定全年服务学习活动日历,为学生在整个学年中开展有意义的实践参与提供指引。家委会成员也参与了此次活动,充分彰显了我们蓬勃发展的社区所秉持的协作精神,以及各方通过建立合作共同致力于丰富学生学习体验的坚定承诺。
