Dear families,

Shekou International School is ready for the new academic year!

We have updated and upgraded a range of areas across each campus with a focus on safety, security and learning. These areas will be appreciated by students when they are back in our welcoming and safe environment.

We have completed the orientation program for new faculty and I am thrilled by the quality experience and expertise that our new team members bring to our community. I am particularly happy that our new Primary Principal, Erin Threlfall, brings leadership experiences from other excellent schools across the world to our program. I know that you will also be excited to meet these outstanding educators in the coming weeks.

深圳市蛇口外籍人员子女学校现已全面做好迎接新学年的准备！

我们对各个校区进行了一系列精心的更新与升级，特别着重强化了安全防护措施，并优化了学习环境。当学生们再次踏入我们这个既温馨又安全的校园时，他们定能立刻感受到这些变化所带来的便捷与惬意。

新教师的入职培训也已圆满结束，新成员们展现出的丰富经验和专业素养让我深感欣慰与鼓舞，他们为我们的校园社区注入了勃勃生机。特别值得一提的是，我们新任的小学部校长Erin Threlfall将把她在全球多所知名学校积累的宝贵领导经验融入我们的教育体系中。我坚信，在接下来的几周里，您也将有幸结识这些杰出的教育工作者，并同样为他们的到来感到由衷的高兴与期待。

Through next week we will be putting the finishing touches to the new school year. This includes Emergency First Aid training, final testing of our new Toddle and Schools365 platforms, and setting up our classrooms.

You will have seen that our graduates from last year did remarkably well in their IBDP scores and acceptances to quality universities. We are so proud of their achievements and the collective work of our educators to prepare them. We will stay connected through our alumni association and keep our community updated on their successes.

This year promises to be one that is filled with vitality and energy.  Our IB programs and extensive co-curricular activities provide challenge and inspiration to prepare our children for success.  But the real difference comes from our well qualified and experienced educators and the care they give to each individual. I thank you for choosing and trusting SIS. I am very much looking forward to working closely with all families in our joint purpose of giving our children a wonderful learning experience.

Community Tips

As we prepare for the new school year, setting goals with your children is a simple yet powerful way to boost motivation and build confidence. Research shows that students who set goals are more focused, resilient, and engaged in their learning. Whether academic or personal, a clear short-term goal helps children track progress and celebrate growth. Taking time as a family to discuss goals also decreases anxiety and fosters partnerships. No matter what age, having a goal to achieve in the first weeks of school can be helpful

在为新学年做准备之际，与孩子一起设定目标是一个简单却高效的方法，能够激发他们的动力、增强自信心。研究表明，设定目标的学生在学习上更加专注、坚韧且投入。无论是学业上的还是个人成长方面的，一个明确的短期目标都能帮助孩子追踪自己的进步，并庆祝所取得的成长。一家人抽出时间共同讨论目标，还能减轻孩子的焦虑情绪，促进家庭成员间的伙伴关系。无论孩子年龄大小，在开学初几周设定一个可实现的目标都是很有帮助的。

Special note

I know that you will have been concerned to hear that there have been cases of the mosquito borne infection, chikungunya, here in Shenzhen. We have taken advice from the CDC and other health authorities to minimize the risk at each campus and will have protocols in place for students when school begins and all classrooms will be checked regularly. Advice for families at home includes wearing light, loose clothing at critical times of dusk and dawn, and removing any standing water around the home and being wary of bushy areas that mosquitos prefer. Use deterrents like sprays and coils if you are outside. Together we can keep ourselves safe.

我知道，听闻深圳出现了几例由蚊子传播的基孔肯雅热感染病例，您一定会感到担忧。我们已经向疾病预防控制中心（CDC）及其他卫生部门寻求了专业建议，并在各个校区采取了一系列措施，力求将风险降至最低。开学后，我们也会针对学生制定相应的防护方案，同时会定期检查所有教室的卫生状况。在此，也给各位家长一些居家防护建议：在黄昏和黎明等蚊子活动高峰期，尽量给孩子穿着浅色、宽松的衣物；及时清理家中的积水，避免蚊子滋生；尽量远离蚊子偏爱的灌木丛区域。如果在户外活动，可以使用驱蚊喷雾或蚊香等防蚊用品。让我们携手努力，共同守护健康与安全。
