When the offer from The University of Hong Kong and the IBO Bilingual Diploma arrived simultaneously, CISK student Jason Gong proved the power of persistence and choice with his strength. Today, we specially invite Jason to share his growth story, revealing the story behind this impressive transcript and how CISK has escorted his dreams.
What was your first reaction when you received the official admission notice from The University of Hong Kong and the IB Bilingual Diploma? What do these two achievements mean to you?
At the time, I could hardly believe it. I checked the email repeatedly before daring to tell my family. Being admitted to HKU recognises my academic ability, while the IB Bilingual Diploma affirms my cross-cultural communication skills. These two transcripts are not only a summary of my past efforts, but also give me confidence in my future exploration of science in the bilingual academic environment of HKU.I would especially like to thank CISK for providing me with such a platform for growth, enabling me to maintain sensitivity to bilingual cultures while achieving academic depth.
Obtaining the IB Bilingual Diploma requires strong bilingual proficiency. How did you balance the learning of the two languages? What support did CISK's bilingual environment provide for you?
I believe the key lies in integrating language learning into daily life. In CISK's classrooms, I use English to delve into professional terminology, and in Chinese classes, I develop critical thinking skills by engaging with classic literature. Special thanks go to my Chinese and English teachers, who provided personalised feedback in line with the IB bilingual assessment standards. For example, their guidance on using literary terms to accurately express complex views in writing saved me from going off track.
What considerations are behind choosing the science program at The University of Hong Kong? How did CISK's curriculum help you clarify this direction?
One of the reasons I chose this major is that I prefer a rigorous and logical way of thinking. In CISK's MYP programme, teachers provided me with a great deal of guidance to help me identify my areas of interest. This helped me to set myself clear goals when studying DP subjects and to meet the requirements of university courses.
During your study at CISK, was there any experience that made you feel "it was this experience that made me who I am today"?
Over the years, CISK's 'project-based learning' model has given me the confidence to cope with challenges, from group projects in secondary school to IB CAS projects. The school has always encouraged us to learn leadership and cooperation through practical experience. I remember the instructor not giving direct answers, but guiding us to break problems down step by step using design thinking. Cultivating this ability is more valuable than acquiring knowledge itself.
As a senior, what advice do you have for CISK's younger students, especially those who are also striving for the IB Bilingual Diploma and top universities?
First of all, take advantage of the opportunities to make mistakes that CISK provides, such as impromptu speeches in class or extracurricular activities. These activities allow you to get to know yourself better. Secondly, adopt an 'immersive mindset' when it comes to bilingual learning: when watching popular science documentaries in English, for example, try summarising the main points in Chinese. Switching between languages like this can help you understand the differences in the way they make you think. Finally, don't be afraid to ask teachers for help.

The teachers at CISK always make time to listen to your concerns. This level of support is CISK's most valuable asset. Believe me, when you look back, you will realise that it is these little things that give you a competitive edge when applying. In addition, don't forget to develop your extracurricular skills while balancing your studies. Use your time wisely and try to obtain language certifications and participate in competitions during the winter and summer holidays, as this will make you more competitive.
Jason's journey of growth is a vivid illustration of CISK's educational philosophy of 'empowering every learner to become a global citizen'. Here, we see every passion being ignited and every ambition being nurtured. Congratulations to Jason! We look forward to more CISK students writing their own wonderful stories here.
