在OCIS2025届毕业典礼的讲话

过去一年里，OCIS经历了诸多变革——在学校架构重塑中焕发新机，在师生共同成长中积淀力量，在学子砥砺前行中见证蜕变。

Over the course of the year we have gone through a number of changes here at OCIS., in the way that the school is structured, in the way people have grown and in the way students have progressed. 

学年伊始，余校长曾以"征程"为题勉励我们：唯有全力以赴，方能持续精进。当时我们未曾预料，这位深耕教育四十余载的师者与管理者在数月后便会功成身退。对我个人而言，接过校长重任不仅意味着职责更迭，更是获得了重塑学校发展蓝图、优化教育生态的珍贵契机。在此，我衷心感谢这份托付。

We started the school year with our Principal, Mrs Yu, welcoming us back to the school. She spoke about the journey, she spoke about working hard and she spoke about always trying to do your best to improve. We didn’t know then that in a few short months, after over 40 years involved in education as a teacher and administrator, Mrs Yu would decide to retire to enjoy a well deserved rest. And from my own personal perspective, the school changed, because the school was handed over to me to step into her shoes, as Principal. I am most grateful to be handed the opportunity to develop how the school grows, how the school looks and how the school runs.

回溯这半年，我愈发体会到余校长当年运筹帷幄的深意——那些日常教学中不易察觉的精细安排，那些润物无声的治校智慧，此刻都显得尤为珍贵。

Looking back over the past 6 months I have seen how much extra detail, in the work of the school,was carried out by Mrs Yu, in the background. The amount of work and details we normally don’t see in our everyday school life.

首先要向所有获奖同学致以祝贺！特别要表彰"最大进步奖"与"明日之星奖"得主——你们用勤勉超越了天赋，用成长诠释了坚持。其中"明日之星奖"更具特殊意义：英语作为我校核心学科，是国际化教育的基石。若不能攻克语言关，我们将难以畅读经典、应对考评，更遑论走向世界。此刻手握"明日之星"奖状的同学们，你们跨越的不仅是英语能力的阈值，更是打开了通向更广阔天地的语言之窗。

Firstly I want to congratulate all award recipients today. But in particular I want to congratulate those students who received awards for Most Improvement or Rising Star awards as those students are the ones who have shown significant growth in achievements by working harder than someone who may be naturally talented in a subject. The Rising Star awards are important as English is our most important subject. We cannot be an international school unless English learning is our top priority. Because without English, we can’t read our textbooks, we can’t read our exams and we can’t succeed. Those who were awarded a Rising Star Award should be considerably proud as they have been recognised as moving into a different level of English speaking and use of English.

作为校长职责的一部分，我决定每年设立一个特别奖项——"校长勋章"。这个奖项旨在表彰我心目中真正体现OCIS精神的学生。它无关学业榜首的荣耀，也非运动健将的专属，而是授予那些在校园中熠熠生辉的独特存在——或许因学术钻研而突出，或许因体育竞技而耀眼，更可能因他们对待学业与生活的态度而卓然不群。这些学生勇于担当，乐于奉献，甚至敢于站在全校师生面前展现自我。

As part of my role, I have decided to make a special award each year, The Principal’s Award...this award is for the student, who in my eyes, is a true OCIS student. This is not an award for the highest achieving student, nor an award for the best sportsperson but an award for someone who stands out...someone who may stand out academically or through involvement in sports or they may have stood out because of their attitude to school in general, and the way they approach school, studies and life in general. That they are prepared to volunteer and get involved to maybe sometimes have the courage to get up in front of the school and participate.

首届OCIS校长勋章的获得者，正是今晨以学术实力证明了自己，更在过去一年中用实际行动向我展示了何为全情投入。他/她严谨对待学业，积极贡献力量，在学术追求、课外活动与艺术才华之间游刃有余。或许他/她的制服并非时刻规整，偶尔也会沉迷手机屏幕，但这些丝毫不妨碍我们看见一个全面发展、才华横溢的鲜活灵魂。2025年度首届OCIS校长勋章授予八年级学生——常家睿（Ray），恭喜你！

The first Pricipal’s Award at OCIS goes to a student who has shown this morning that they are academically high achieving, but have shown to me over the year that they are willing to contribute, that they are willing to help and that they are serious about school. They have been able to successfully balance their academic studies, their extra-curricular activities and their creative talents so that everything progresses. I can say that perhaps they don’t always wear their uniform correctly and that sometimes they spend too much time looking at  their phone, but all that has come out as a well balanced, interesting, involved and gifted student. The first OCIS Principal’s Award for 2025, goes to a Grade 8 student...Ray Congratulations!

在此，我要向学校大家庭致以诚挚的谢意。致我们敬爱的教师们：感谢你们精益求精的教学设计，感谢你们夙夜匪懈的敬业精神，更感谢你们给予每个孩子那份独特的关注与呵护。特别感谢小学部Demi主任和中学部Esther主任，是你们坚实的支持让我得以更好地履行校长职责。

I want to present my thanks to the school community. To the teachers...thank you for your work, your planning and your dedication, in particular the dedication and personal interest and care you place into each student. In particular I thank Ms Demi and  Ms Esther as Heads of Primary and Secondary for stepping up in support of me in my role.

致亲爱的同学们：并非每个人都能收获奖杯，但比奖项更珍贵的是你们全力以赴的姿态——这份永不言弃的探索精神，正是成长最美的注脚。

I want to thank the students for their efforts...not everybody wins a prize...but the goal is that everyone should be trying.

最后，我要向所有家长深深鞠躬：感谢您将最珍贵的信任托付于OCIS。在我的家长会演示文稿末页，始终设问"为何选择OCIS"——答案其实早已镌刻在我们每个教育行动中：因为您孩子的全面发展，始终是我们最神圣的使命。无论是学术精进、社交培养还是人格塑造，我们都将竭尽所能引领他们走向光明未来。

And lastly I want to thank the parents...thank you for having the trust in us, as a school to teach your children, that you trust that the school has the best interest of your child in our hearts...When I present my ppt to parents the last slide has the question “Why OCIS”...and I answer rhetorically...because your child matters...your child matters in every way to us...academically, socially and for their growth as a person. So I thank all our parents for that trust that we will lead your children in the right direction.

西谚有云"若无破，不需补", 但当变革需要发生时，又有云"不要把婴儿和洗澡水一起倒掉(去芜存菁)"。作为校长，我既会珍视学校已有的卓越传统——今日的学术硕果便是明证；更将秉持"精益求精"的信念，持续优化教育生态。因为我的终极目标从未改变：让每个OCIS学子都能在这里获得绽放生命光彩的无限可能。

In conclusion, there is a saying “If it is not broken...don’t fix it”... and another saying when changes are needed ..”you do not throw the baby out with the bath water”... this is my goal, things that I see could improve I will work to improve because my goal is for the students, to have the best opportunities possible by attending this school. We already do some things very well, a lot of things, and the academic achievements in front of us tell us that. It is my privilege to lead the school into the next academic year. Thank you.
