The Canadian International School of Hefei is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. David Swanson as the new Head of School, effective August 2025. This decision comes as we prepare for a new chapter at our institution, following the exceptional leadership of Ms. Peggy Gorman-Mitchell, who has dedicated the past decade to fostering a nurturing and innovative educational environment.

A Legacy of Leadership

Ms. Gorman-Mitchell has played a pivotal role in shaping the Canadian International School of Hefei, guiding it through a transformative era defined by academic excellence and community involvement. Her unwavering commitment to students, faculty, and families has left a lasting legacy at the school. After forty-nine years in education, Ms. Peggy is returning to her home in Canada. We wish her every success and good health as she and her husband return to New Brunswick, Canada.  As we bid her farewell, we are excited to welcome Mr. Swanson, whose extensive experience and vision align seamlessly with our mission.

Meet Mr. David Swanson

Mr. Swanson brings a wealth of international educational experience, having served in various leadership roles across the globe. His most recent position was as Head of Secondary School at One World International School in Singapore, where he demonstrated remarkable academic leadership and strategic planning skills. Prior to that, he was the Head of School at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen in China, where he successfully implemented the International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and led the school through accreditation processes.

His journey in education spans multiple countries, including Vietnam, Jordan, Thailand, and Korea, where he has held positions ranging from Deputy Principal to Middle School Principal. This diverse background has equipped him with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities present in international education.

Educational Background and Certifications

Mr. Swanson's academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a Post-Master’s Educational Leadership Program certificate from The College of New Jersey, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado. His Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota further complements his strong foundation in the sciences.

In addition to his degrees, Mr. Swanson holds several certifications relevant to school administration and international school leadership, including a School Administration License from New Jersey and a Secondary Science Teaching License from Colorado. His commitment to professional development is evident through his participation in numerous IB training sessions and global conferences.
