Mid-Autumn Festival

As autumn paints the campus in golden hues, ISASC comes alive with the warmth of the season: colorful lanterns sway above, and children’s laughter drifts on the scent of osmanthus — our Mid-Autumn celebrations are in full swing! Students and teachers from all backgrounds gather to explore the legends and traditions of this Chinese festival, discovering the joy of reunion through hands-on activities and shared moments.

As an international school, we equally cherish local traditions. We design age-appropriate Mid-Autumn celebrations for every student, ensuring that each one — no matter their background or age — can experience and appreciate the magic of Chinese festivals, letting culture flourish across our diverse campus and gently take root in their hearts.

Early Years children gather around our principal, eyes sparkling with curiosity, as they listen to the stories of Chang’e Flying to the Moon and the Jade Rabbit pounding medicine. Through these tales, they feel the warmth of reunion and the sweetness of longing, beginning their first close encounter with this traditional festival.

At the primary level, students turn the imagery of Mid-Autumn into their own creations: crafting lanterns and printing designs on fans. Each beautiful lantern, every delicate print, reflects their understanding and appreciation of tradition. Through hands-on work and collaboration, they transform what they see and feel into art, savoring the joy of creation.

Secondary students take the lead by bringing treasured Mid-Autumn objects from home, sharing the stories behind them. Through presenting and engaging with their peers, they actively explore the festival’s significance and contribute to keeping traditions alive. A vote celebrates the object that best embodies the Mid-Autumn spirit — turning appreciation into action and letting tradition continue through their hands.

This layered journey allows students to approach culture step by step—from discovery to creation, and then to understanding and action. In a diverse world, tradition is never distant; it unfolds gently in every moment of exploration and sharing.

Stepping into the cafeteria, the festive spirit greets you everywhere: traditional decorations catch the eye, and children laugh as they solve riddles. Fragrant mooncakes and local treats fill the air—not just a meal, but a taste of culture, letting students savor the flavors of the festival.

In this diverse campus, cultural exchange is everywhere. Korean teachers introduces Chuseok customs like hanbok and Ddakji chigi, while Japanese students create posters sharing their festival traditions. Through these interactions, students appreciate different interpretations of the same festival, broadening their international perspective while experiencing Chinese tradition.

Festivals are the softest bridges connecting the tradition and present. During Mid-Autumn celebrations, students explore stories, create with their hands, and share experiences — discovering tradition while connecting with the world around them. In curiosity and creativity, learning turns into action, and each celebration becomes a living part of their growth.
