Dot, dot, dot...
Why are the kids
dotting on paper?
Oh, it is THE DOT DAY!
Who would have thought?! Our usually tranquil library burst into a colorful “Dot Wonderland” on the second week of September! With colored pens in hand, the children dotted and dabbed across their chosen frames, letting every drop of color dance with creativity and imagination to show their ideas.
All of this was to celebrate the International Dot Day on September 15 — a special day that encourages children to be brave, embrace challenges, and express themselves with confidence!
The classroom buzzed with laughter and little flashes of ideas — not just an art activity, but the children’s first brave step into the new school year.

Every September 15, children around the world welcome International Dot Day, inspired by the Canadian picture book The Dot. It tells the story of a girl who thought she “couldn’t draw” until she made her first dot. From that single mark, she dared to try, discovered her potential, and even held her own art exhibition.
The story encourages children to:
Be brave for the first step
Embrace challenges
Express and admire themselves

This year, ISASC Library chose "Growth Mindset" as the theme for the Dot Day, hoping that at the start of the new school year, children could experience that every try, every little “dot,” is an opportunity to grow. Through painting and creating, they not only left color on paper but also planted seeds of courage and resilience in their hearts. Just like the girl in the picture book, they learned to believe in their potential and bravely explore the unknown.

During the class, children from early years and primary years freely chose their frames, wrote little encouraging messages for growing mindset, and dotted their ideas onto paper with colorful pens. One by one, the vibrant dots came together to form unique creations, full of their courage and imagination. Even the teachers added their own dots too, sharing in the joy of this special community experience.

On their blank sheets of paper, children not only enjoyed the fun of creating art, but also planted seeds of courage. Every stroke is a small breakthrough, every attempt is a step of growth. They learned to appreciate their own efforts, embrace imperfection, and cheer for each other’s creativity.
This is exactly what we advocate through our whole-child education: nurturing potential across intellectual, emotional, and social growth while fostering confidence, resilience, and empathy. Through the International Dot Day, children used colorful dots to kick off a new school year full of courage and imagination!
